Weeks
Our due date is coming up soon, and our
baby's just waiting for the right time to be born. He has really fattened up,
and he likely should weigh between 6 and 7 1/2 pounds now (boys tend to be
slightly heavier than girls), and he's probably between 19 and 20 inches long—but
we all know better. I cook ‘em big! He has a firm grasp, which we'll soon be able to
test with our pinkies! His organs are fully developed and in place, but his
lungs and brain — though developed enough for him to function now — will
continue to mature right through childhood.
This

At
the doctor’s appointment this week:
I
am measuring 40 weeks.*
I
am fully effaced and dilated 2 cm.**
The
baby’s head is not engaged.
*Coincidently,
the measurement from the top of your pelvic bone to the top of your fundus is roughly equivalent to your baby’s gestational age.
**In
labor, a woman’s cervix must efface/soften/ripen and then
dilate to 10 centimeters before she can push a baby out. Active labor is considered 4 cm on.
I
have been trying to pass the time by keeping myself busy. As we did for Sophie, we (my dad and I) made
a lamp for the nursery for this baby, too!

We are registered at Babies
“R” Us.
Note that, for the purposes of this chart, babies are
measured from the crown (or top) of the head to the rump (or bottom) until
about 20 weeks. After that, they're measured from head to toe.
